Sprockets Spare Parts FAQ
What are Sprocket Spare Parts?
Besides bolts and adapters, Replacement Guards play a major role here. Modern street sprockets often have an aluminum core and a screw-on nylon/fiberglass guard ring. This ring is a sacrificial part: it is meant to wear out while grinding to protect the chain and sprocket.Replacement Guards: What to watch out for
If your guard is worn through, you can simply replace it. But be careful:- No Standard: There are no universal guards! An Odyssey guard does not fit an Eclat sprocket.
- Model Specifics: Even within a brand, there are differences. Pay attention to the exact product name of your sprocket.
- Mounting: The small retaining bolts are usually included with the replacement guard, but don't lose them during the swap.
Adapter Rings (Hat Washers)
Sprockets are often made with a large 24mm bore (or 23.8mm). If you ride a thinner spindle, you need an adapter ring to fill this gap.- 19mm Spindle: You need an adapter from 24mm to 19mm.
- 22mm Spindle: You need an adapter from 24mm to 22mm.
- 24mm Spindle: You usually need no adapter (with 24mm bore) or a very thin shim.
