SE Bikes FAQ
Who or what is SE Bikes?
SE Bikes (Scot Enterprises) is one of the oldest and most iconic BMX companies in the world. It was founded in 1977 by the 19-year-old Scot Breithaupt, who was already famous for organizing early BMX Race events. Today, SE is known for both its race heritage and its dominance in the "Big Wheel" BMX movement.
What is the story behind the legendary "PK Ripper"?
The PK Ripper is one of the most famous and longest-running BMX frames in history. After SE produced the aluminum JU-6 frame, their top team rider Perry Kramer (P.K.) had the innovative idea to add a large gusset at the top tube for increased strength. The frame was redesigned to his specs and became his signature model: the PK Ripper was born.
Who is Todd "Wildman" Lyons and what is his role?
Todd "Wildman" Lyons is the SE Director and the modern public face of the brand. A legendary rider in his own right, he is a 3-time BMX Racing World Champion and a 1-time Dirt Jump World Champion. He joined SE as their sole sponsored rider in 2003 and was hired as Brand Manager in 2004, eventually becoming Director.
His nickname comes from his wild antics, such as being the first rider to ever do a backflip in the middle of a race. Today, Todd is a massive ambassador for the "Bike Life" culture, organizing and participating in rideouts across the globe, and is responsible for designing the bikes that define the scene.
What makes SE Bikes products special?
The specialty of SE Bikes is their unmatched heritage combined with modern innovation. They are not just an "Old School" brand; they have successfully transitioned their expertise into the modern era. Driven by Todd Lyons, they are the key force behind the "Bike Life" culture, popularizing 26" and 29" BMX cruisers ("Big Rippers") for wheelies and urban riding like no other brand.
What does SE Bikes primarily manufacture?
While originally a pure BMX Race brand, SE Bikes now offers a wide range, with a major focus on:
- Big Wheel BMX / Bike Life: Their most popular category, including models like the Big Ripper (29"), Beast Mode Ripper, Fat Ripper (26" Fat), and So Cal Flyer (24").
 - BMX Race: High-performance complete bikes and frames.
 - BMX Freestyle: A range of 20" complete bikes.
 - Retro Series: Re-releases of their iconic 80s models like the PK Ripper and Quadangle.

Who are SE Bikes products suitable for?
SE Bikes caters to a wide audience. Their Big Wheel bikes are perfect for the Bike Life culture, urban cruising, and riders who want a larger, more comfortable BMX. Their Race bikes are for competitive racers, and their Retro bikes are for collectors and "Old School" enthusiasts who appreciate the brand's deep history.
