Tubes FAQ
AUTOVENTIL (Schrader Valve, AV):
This type of valve, with a diameter of 8.5mm, is commonly used in tires for mountain bikes, motorcycles, trucks, and cars. As a result, you can fill your tire with air at any gas station. Some tubes feature a Schrader valve that is rubber-coated up to the valve cap threads, while others have a fully metal Schrader valve, which makes them less prone to leaks caused by sharp edges of the valve hole in the rim.
SCLAVERANDVENTIL (French Valve, SV):
The Sclaverand valve (also known as the French valve, SV) is narrower (ø 6.5 mm) and longer than the Schrader valve. It is typically used in touring bikes, racing bikes, fixed-gear bikes, etc. This valve type is also suitable for high tire pressures (up to 15 bar), and its narrow design makes it ideal for narrow rims.
DUNLOPVENTIL (Blitz Valve, Normal Valve, DV):
The Dunlop valve (DV, Blitz valve, Normal valve) has the same diameter as a Schrader valve (ø 8.5 mm) and is used in bikes such as Dutch bikes, city bikes, touring bikes, and children's bikes. By loosening the nut, the valve can be removed, or the air in the tire can be released. This valve type allows for a tire pressure of up to 6 bar.
TUBE WIDTHS:
Generally, a tube can be used for tire widths ranging from 1.75" to 2.45" because it is made of flexible rubber. If you're using a 1.75" wide tire, make sure the tube you purchase is available in sizes starting from 20 X 1.75".
FATTY TUBES:
Fatty tubes feature extra-thick walls, making them less prone to punctures from sharp stones or shards, but they naturally add more weight.
FLYBIKES "COBRA" TUBE:
The Cobra tube is a unique type of tube that allows for quick tube replacement without the need to remove the wheel from the frame or fork.
TIPS FOR PROPER TUBE INSTALLATION:
Before inserting the tube into the tire, inflate it slightly so that it is no longer wrinkled or floppy. When inserting the tube, ensure it sits without folds and is not twisted between the rim and tire. Once the tube is properly positioned, the valve is aligned correctly, and the tire is placed onto the rim, inflate the tire to about two bar, then release the air. This step helps the tube and tire settle properly and align. After this, you can inflate the tire to your desired pressure, and it should roll evenly. Always ensure that the tire is seated properly on the rim while inflating.
RIM TAPE:
Your rim must be fitted with rim tape to protect the tube from sharp-edged hole drillings and other manufacturing-related sharp edges.
