MTB Seatclamps
The seat clamp prevents your post from slipping into the frame or twisting. In Dirt Jump, bolted clamps are usually used instead of quick releases since the saddle stays down anyway. Important: Measure the outer diameter of your frame tube, not the seat post!

MTB Seatclamps FAQ
What is a seat clamp?
An aluminum ring that sits on top of the frame's seat tube and clamps the seat post in place. Dirt Jumpers prefer minimalist designs without quick-release levers.
How do I find the right size?
Common mistake: The clamp size is not the same as the seat post diameter! You must measure the outer diameter of the seat tube on the frame.
| Seat Post (Inner) | Required Clamp (Outer)* |
|---|---|
| 27.2mm | Often 29.8mm or 30.0mm |
| 30.9mm | Often 34.9mm |
| 31.6mm | Often 34.9mm or 36.4mm |
*Note: These are guidelines. Always measure your frame with a caliper to be sure!
What types are there?
- Bolt (Bolt-on)
- Tightened with an Allen key.
Advantage: Lighter, looks better, no risk of injury from protruding levers during tricks. - Quick Release (QR)
- Open and close by hand lever.
Advantage: Saddle height adjustable on the go (good for touring, unnecessary for Dirt Jump).
