BMX in Stuttgart

Welcome to the Stuttgart BMX Family! We are your local BMX shop and your direct connection to the Stuttgart BMX scene. Here you will find an introduction to all disciplines, workshops, a small selection of the best spots, how to contact the scene, and other helpful FAQs.

BMX Disciplines & Spots

BMX Street

The street is your skatepark! The great thing about BMX Street: every stair set, ledge, and curb can become your spot. However, to practice the basics and new tricks in peace, Stuttgart offers a variety of skateparks and plazas. There you will regularly meet other riders (locals) who are happy to help and give you tips.

Plazas & Indoor Parks:

  • Plaza at Nordfriedhof: Plenty of space, ledges, and good lines.

BMX Park

This is all about ramps, airtime, and flow. For everyone who loves to catch air. BMX Freestyle Park is now an official sport within the International Cycling Union (UCI) and has even been an Olympic discipline since 2020! Unfortunately, there is currently no real facility directly in Stuttgart that allows for proper, professional BMX park riding – an issue we are actively advocating for with the Stuttgart Sports Department.

Parks & Bowls:

  • Bowl & Skateplaza Waiblingen: A bowl landscape up to 2.35m deep with a massive spine, which already hosted the Vans Pro-Cup, an international BMX contest.

  • Reithalle Ulm: 900sqm large, bright indoor park with a historic ambience and top-quality ramps.

  • Bikepark Darmstadt: A 2500 square meter BMX park with wooden ramps and bowl areas for different skill levels, as well as a resi ramp.

BMX Flatland

Stuttgart is one of the flatland strongholds in Germany. This discipline is all about balance, technique, and patience. BMX Flatland is also now an official sport in the International Cycling Union (UCI), with regular National, European, and World Championships. Our connection to the scene is deeply rooted: CEO Daniel Fuhrmann and kunstform founder Sebastian Pospischil are former flatland professionals themselves and are still active today.

Flatland Spots:

  • Haus der Geschichte (HDG): The legendary spot, named Johann-Lorenz-Schiedmayer Platz in 2025, is located between the House of Representatives and the House of History. Smooth ground, partially roofed, and a relaxed atmosphere.

BMX Race

BMX Race is the ideal sport for conditioning, speed, and catching air. On a specially prepared track with a starting gate, big jumps, and berms, riders compete directly against each other. BMX Race is the most original BMX discipline, is organized by the International Cycling Union (UCI), and has been a fixed part of the Olympic Games since 2008. There is also a national league (Bundesliga), meaning regular races take place, including the Baden-Württemberg Cup, German Championships, Euro Cup, European Championships, World Championships, and much more.

Important Equipment:
Please note: A full-face helmet and gloves are mandatory equipment on the race track!

Race Tracks & Clubs:

BMX Race is organized through clubs. Closest tracks:

  • BMX Union Stuttgart (Münster/Hallschlag): The main hub featuring the most modern race track in Germany, where many clubs from the surrounding area train.

BMX Pumptrack

Although pumptracks are often ridden with BMX bikes, it is a discipline in its own right and a fantastic full-body workout. Just like BMX Race and Flatland, Pumptrack is now an official sport in the International Cycling Union (UCI)! Here, you don't build speed by pedaling, but by targeted pushing and pulling (pumping) of the bike over rollers and through berms. A pumptrack is also the perfect foundation for learning bike control and the right feel for transitions.

Which bike is the right one?
That entirely depends on your goal: If your main focus on the pumptrack is pure speed and racing for the best time, you should choose an extremely lightweight BMX Race Bike. However, if you are more about style, flow, or want to throw in some tricks while riding, a classic BMX Freestyle Bike is definitely the better choice.

Pumptracks:

Asphalt pumptracks are currently springing up everywhere around Stuttgart. Very popular and good tracks can be found in Weilimdorf, Köngen, Rommelshausen, Sindelfingen, or Ehningen, for example.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the proper etiquette at a skatepark?

Respect is key!

  1. Wait your turn (no "snaking").
  2. Watch out for the paths (lines) of others.
  3. Do not sit on the obstacles (ramp edges/coping).
  4. Do not leave trash behind.
  5. Be friendly and greet the locals – they will be happy to help you out.

Where am I allowed to ride my BMX?

Traffic regulations (StVO) apply on public roads. Riding BMX is almost always allowed in skateparks and on pumptracks. At street spots (like the Marmorplatte), the rule is: This is not an official sports ground. Be considerate of pedestrians! If security shows up, stay friendly and change spots.

Do I need pegs on my bike?

For street and flatland, yes, to do grinds and tricks. For race and pumptracks: No (they are often even strictly forbidden on race tracks!). Pegs are great in the skatepark, but please pay attention to the indoor park rules regarding materials.

What are "Plastic Pegs" and why do I need them?

In many indoor parks (e.g., Stuttpark), pure steel pegs are forbidden because they damage the edges (copings) of the ramps. You need plastic pegs here.

Is wearing a helmet mandatory?

In most indoor skateparks, on club race tracks, and during workshops: YES! You won't get in without a helmet. It is not mandatory on the street, but we highly recommend it. Shin guards are also worth their weight in gold in the beginning to prevent painful pedal hits.

What is the best way to learn new tricks?

YouTube tutorials are good; real people are better. Go to the Haus der Geschichte (HDG) or check out the plazas and parks. The Stuttgart scene is very welcoming – just politely ask the locals if you need some tips.
