MTB Grips
The classic rubber grip without a clamp core remains the favorite in Dirt Jump and Street. Why? Because without a plastic core, it offers more cushioning and often feels more comfortable. Find proven rib-pattern grips and waffle patterns from top brands like ODI, Sensus, or Cult here.

MTB Grips FAQ
What are Push-On grips and what is their advantage?
These grips consist entirely of a rubber compound and are pushed directly onto the handlebars. Since they lack the hard plastic core found in lock-on grips, the rubber sits directly on the metal. This ensures a more direct ride feel while providing better damping for hard impacts.
What profiles are available?
- Ribbed (Mushroom)
- The classic (e.g., ODI Longneck). The fine rubber ribs compress easily, adapt to the hand, and channel away sweat. Very comfortable.
- Waffle / Diamond
- Offers a lot of grip and hold but feels slightly harder. Popular with riders who like a very direct feel (e.g., Vans pattern).
With or without flange?
- With Flange (Inner disc): Protects the thumb from rubbing against shifters or brake levers and provides orientation ("stop") for the hand. Popular for tricks to find hand position blindly.
- Without Flange: Cleaner look and doesn't interfere if you run shifters close to the grip.
How do I install rubber grips securely?
- Clean the handlebar with brake cleaner (must be free of grease!).
- Spray some hairspray or specific grip glue inside the grip.
- Quickly slide the grip onto the bar and align it.
- Let it dry (at least 30 mins).
- Pro Tip: For maximum security in wet conditions, you can additionally secure the grip with safety wire (many grips have grooves for this).
