MTB Rims FAQ

What is a double-wall rim?

Simple rims consist of only one wall. Double-wall rims have a double floor. This box construction makes them many times more resistant to twisting and flat spots – a must for every jump.

What should I look for when choosing?

Inner Width
For Dirt Jump tires (2.1" to 2.3"), an inner width of 25mm to 32mm is ideal. The wider the rim, the more stable the tire sits and won't fold in corners.
Hole Count
Must match the hub! Standard is 32 holes. If you plan maximum abuse (Street), go for 36 holes.
Joint
Welded: The strongest and lightest connection at the rim seam.
Pinned: Cheaper, slightly heavier, but sufficient for beginners.

What does "eyeleted" mean?

Eyeleted rims have steel rings in the spoke holes. They prevent the spoke nipples from pulling through the aluminum of the rim under high tension. A quality feature for durability.

What do the specifications mean?

Specification Explanation Examples/Available
Size Diameter. 26 Inch, 27.5 Inch (rare in DJ)
