Back Protection is Key
The spine is vulnerable. A back protector (often viscoelastic foam like SAS-TEC) absorbs high impact energy and prevents spine injuries during tough crashes.
Comfort vs. Protection
Modern protector shirts use "Intelligent Foam". It is soft and flexible (moves with your body) while you ride, but hardens instantly upon impact.
Washing Body Armor
Base layer shirts get soaked in sweat. Hygiene is crucial here:
- Mandatory: You MUST remove the large back protector insert before washing. It absorbs water like a sponge and takes days to dry inside the pocket.
- Wash: The shirt itself can usually be machine washed at 30°C.
