Fullface Helmets FAQ
Why a Full Face Helmet?
In BMX Racing and Dirt Jumping, speeds are higher and crashes often happen face-first. A standard helmet leaves your chin exposed. A Full Face helmet distributes the impact energy over the entire head and protects your face.
Fit Check: The Cheek Pads
A Full Face helmet fits differently than a skate helmet.
The Test: When you put it on, the cheek pads should press firmly against your cheeks (chipmunk face). If you can wiggle the helmet freely without your skin moving, it is too big! The pads will settle slightly over time (break-in period).
Carbon vs. Fiber/Plastic
- Carbon
- The lightest option. Essential for racers where every gram of neck strain counts. Expensive but worth it for pros.
- Fiberglass/Polycarbonate
- Slightly heavier but very robust and affordable. Perfect for park/dirt riders and beginners.
