MTB Chains
Your chain needs to bite instantly when you pedal and withstand snaps even on botched landings. For Dirt Jump and Street MTBs, robust 1/8 inch singlespeed chains are the standard. Choose between classic link chains for durability or half-link chains for perfect rear wheel positioning in short dropouts.

MTB Chains FAQ
What is an MTB singlespeed chain and what is its main purpose?
Unlike narrow shifting chains, which need to be flexible to climb over cogs, singlespeed chains for Dirt Jump and Street are designed for maximum tensile strength and impact resistance. They transfer power directly and must withstand grind damage.
What sizes are there?
- 1/2" x 1/8" (Standard / Wide)
- The most common standard in BMX and Dirt Jump. The chain is wider, the plates are thicker. This ensures maximum stability and wear resistance. Fits almost all DJ sprockets.
- 1/2" x 3/32" (Narrow / Race)
- Slightly lighter and narrower. Often used in racing or with specific MTB cogs. Note: Not compatible with thick 1/8" chainrings!
What types are there?
- Standard Chains: Consist of inner and outer links. They are usually slightly lighter and stretch less over time.
- Half-link Chains: Every link is identical and overlaps the next.
Advantage: You can cut the chain more precisely (half a link instead of two links). This is perfect for positioning the rear wheel as far forward as possible ("slammed") in horizontal dropouts to make the bike more agile.
How do I install and shorten the chain?
- Place the chain over the chainring and cog.
- Determine the correct length (rear wheel should be centered in the dropout).
- Use a sturdy chain breaker tool to push out the pin and shorten the chain.
- Close the chain:
- With a Master Link: Simply clip together (for standard chains).
- By Riveting: Push in a special connecting pin with the tool (often necessary for half-links).
- Tension the rear wheel until the chain is tight but runs smoothly.
What do the specifications mean?

| Type | Construction of links. | Standard, Halflink |
| Links | Length of new chain. | Usually approx. 100 links (enough for all setups) |
