Foot & Ankle Protectors

Small pad, big relief. Ankle Guards protect the protruding ankle bone (malleolus) from smashing against the crank arm or frame rear triangle. They also offer support to prevent rolling your ankle. Essential for riders attempting Tailwhips or learning 360s.

Foot & Ankle Protectors FAQ

Why do I need Ankle Guards?

The inside of your ankle is constantly close to the crank arm. One slip, and the bone hits metal. Ankle guards use hard plastic caps or dense foam to cushion this impact.

Types

Pad Only (Impact)
Just protects against impact (crank bite). Lightweight and fits easily under socks.
Support Brace (Stabilizer)
Uses straps (often figure-8 lacing) to stabilize the joint and prevent twisting or rolling the ankle. Highly recommended if you have a history of ligament injuries.

Care Instructions

Since these sit tightly inside your shoe, they absorb the most sweat and bacteria.

  • Wash Frequently: Unlike outer pads, ankle guards should be washed very often to prevent fungus and bad odors.
  • Remove Inserts: If your guard has hard plastic disks, remove them before washing.
  • Air Dry: Let them dry completely before the next ride. Damp pads cause blisters.
