BMX Race FAQ
What is a BMX Race Bike and how does it differ from Freestyle?
A BMX Race Bike is a pure speed machine. Unlike freestyle bikes (which are built for tricks and durability), race bikes are optimized for acceleration, stiffness, and low weight. They feature lightweight aluminum frames, thin tires for low rolling resistance, and a geometry designed for sprinting and cornering stability on the track.
How is a Race Bike equipped?
- Frame
- Usually made of 6061 Aluminum for stiffness. The top tube length scales with the rider's size.
- Wheels
- Lightweight rims and fast-rolling tires. Sizes range from 18" (Micro) to 20" (Standard) and 24" (Cruiser).
- Brakes
- A powerful rear brake (V-Brake or Disc) is mandatory for track safety.
- Gearing
- A race-specific gear ratio (e.g., 44/16) designed for explosive starts.
