Seatclamps
A slipping seat is annoying and dangerous. Secure your post with a high-quality seat clamp. Whether you need a standard 28.6mm clamp for your steel frame or a quick-release for racing – we have the matching part. Check the inner diameter of the clamp carefully to ensure it fits your frame perfectly.

Seatclamps FAQ
What is a BMX Seat Clamp and what is its main purpose?
A Seat Clamp is a small metal ring that sits at the top of the frame's seat tube. Its sole purpose is to compress the frame tube onto the seat post to prevent the seat from twisting or sliding down while riding.
How is a BMX Seat Clamp constructed?
The construction is very simple and usually consists of two parts.
- Clamp Body
- The ring made of aluminium (rarely steel) that surrounds the frame tube.
- Bolt
- A steel bolt (usually 5mm or 6mm Allen key) that pulls the clamp together to generate pressure.
What types of BMX Seat Clamps are available?
We distinguish mainly between the mechanism and the manufacturing process.
- Standard Clamp (Bolt)
- The standard in BMX Freestyle. Fixed with an Allen bolt. Simple, light, and robust. Nothing sticks out that you could get caught on.
- Quick Release
- Allows adjustment of seat height without tools. Very rare in Freestyle, but popular in Race or for casual cruising to quickly change the height.
- Investment Cast
- Cast clamps. They allow for more organic shapes and usually offer a very clean look.
- CNC Machined
- Milled from a block of aluminium. Very precise, light, and often with a technical look.
Which materials are used for BMX Seat Clamps?
- Aluminium (6061-T6)
- Used for 99% of all clamps. It is light enough and strong enough to generate the necessary clamping force.
- Steel / CrMo
- Very rare. Used mostly on older bikes or specific retro builds. Heavier, but extremely robust.
Which Seat Clamp is right for my needs?
The most important criterion is not the style, but the Inner Diameter. It must match the outer diameter of your frame tube.
| Frame Material | Required Diameter | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| CrMo Steel (Standard Freestyle) | 28.6mm | Most steel frames use 25.4mm posts and have thin walls, resulting in a 28.6mm outer diameter. |
| Aluminium (Race & MTB) | 31.8mm or 34.9mm | Aluminium frames have thicker walls. Often used with 27.2mm posts. Please measure! |
| Integrated Clamp | None | Many modern street frames have the clamp already welded on or integrated into the tube. You don't need an extra clamp here (only a replacement bolt/nut). |
How do I install a BMX Seat Clamp?
- Remove old clamp: Pull the seat post out and remove the old clamp.
- Clean: Clean the clamping area on the frame.
- Position: Slide the new clamp onto the frame. Ensure the slot in the clamp aligns with the slot in the frame (usually on the back).
- Grease Bolt: Put a little grease on the thread of the clamp bolt (but not between frame and clamp!).
- Tighten: Insert the seat post and tighten the bolt. Hand-tight is usually enough – do not use brute force to avoiding snapping the bolt.
How do I maintain and care for my Seat Clamp?
- Don't overtighten: The most common defect is a snapped bolt due to too much force.
- Check regularly: If the seat twists, tighten the bolt slightly.
How do I identify and fix common problems?
- Seat slips despite tight clamp: The frame slot might be squeezed shut (metal touching metal). Or there is grease between the post and frame. Clean everything.
- Bolt snaps: Happens with old bolts or too much force. The bolts are standard metric sizes (mostly M5 or M6) and can be replaced cheaply in any hardware store.
What do the specifications mean?
| Spec | Explanation | Examples / Available |
|---|---|---|
| Inner Diameter | The decisive measure! Must match the outer diameter of your seat tube. | 28.6mm (Standard), 31.8mm |
| Material | Material of the clamp. | Aluminium (Standard), Steel |
