Proper Bikes FAQ

Who or what is Proper Bike Co.?

Proper Bike Co. is a rider-owned BMX company founded in 2001 by Carlo Griggs on the south coast of England (in Pagham). Carlo, who looks back on a long sponsorship history (with brands like Haro, GT, Skyway, and Wethepeople, among others), remains the 100% owner of the brand to this day and makes the final decisions.

What does the Proper brand stand for?

Proper stands for the pure rider-owned ethos: products developed with dedication by riders, for riders. Instead of stamping their logo on generic products, the brand focuses on "quality over quantity" and real innovation. Their slogan is simple: "Support Riderowned, Support Proper! "

What makes Proper products special? (Innovations)

Their special feature is the extreme focus on quality and thoughtful engineering. Proper became legendary for their hubs; especially their front hubs, which were known for spinning extremely long and smoothly. They were also pioneers in the use of bushings in cassette hubs—a technology used by many brands today. This focus on durable yet lightweight components (like the "Magnalite" series) runs through their entire product line.

What does Proper primarily manufacture?

Proper focuses exclusively on high-end BMX components and deliberately does not produce complete bikes, as they believe "that market is flooded." Their reputation is built on:

  • Hubs & Hubguards (their trademark, incl. bushing cassette hubs)
  • Rims
  • Sprockets (e.g., Nonagon versions)
  • Stems, Handlebars, and Forks
  • Seats (e.g., with Tripod system)
  • Apparel & Accessories
