Who or what is White Lightning?
White Lightning (officially White Lightning Co.) is a US maker of chain lubes, cleaners, degreasers and grease for bicycles. The range is small and built around one idea: a chain you do not have to keep scrubbing.
What is special about Clean Ride?
Clean Ride is a wax lube: paraffin wax carried in a solvent. You apply it wet, the solvent evaporates and a dry wax film is left behind. When grit hits the chain, the outer wax layer flakes off and takes the dirt with it – the chain cleans itself as you ride instead of holding on to dust and sand the way a wet oil does. The manufacturer states the formula is covered by four patents.
Wax or oil – which one?
Wax (Clean Ride) is the dry option: clean legs, clean trousers, but it needs topping up more often. In the wet and on long rides an oil lasts longer – that is what Wet Ride and the thin Epic Ride are for, the latter coping well with changing weather. Easy Lube and 2-in-1 round out the range.
