Who or what is Spec-X?
Spec-X is the exclusive brand of Hermann Hartje KG, a wholesaler in Hoya on the river Weser with more than 130 years of company history. Under that name Hartje gathers operating fluids, lubricants and spare parts of all kinds - from mirrors, indicators, horns and licence plate holders to conversion parts for scooters, mopeds, motorcycles and quads.
What does Spec-X do on a bike?
For the workshop it is above all the chemical line Hartje has carried since 2020: chain spray, chain cleaner, motorcycle cleaner and brake cleaner. According to the maker the lubricant line was developed together with racing teams from scooter and motorcycle sport, for road and off-road use. On a bicycle it is the brake cleaner that ends up in the toolbox - getting a disc brake clean is the same job on a bike as it is on a motorcycle.
What is typical of Spec-X?
The brake cleaner is a volatile fast degreaser on a hydrocarbon basis, acetone-free and, according to the maker, free of aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons. Spec-X is distributed in Germany exclusively by Hartje and in Switzerland by Motacc Suisse GmbH.
