Back Protectors
A back protector lies over the spine and spreads the force of an impact across a larger area. It is either strapped directly to the body or sits in a pocket in a vest, jacket or backpack.

Level 1 or Level 2?
The EN 1621-2 standard defines two levels. Level 1 lets through less force than no protection at all; Level 2 markedly less again, but is usually thicker and stiffer. For park and downhill, Level 2 is worth it; for touring, many are fine with Level 1.
Will it fit my vest?
Protectors are sized by back length, not by clothing size. Measure from neck to hip, and for an insert check the dimensions of the pocket in your vest or pack.
