Why a wheel set instead of two single wheels?
Front and rear wheel are matched: same rim, same hub family, same look. The set is usually cheaper than the two wheels bought separately, and you do not have to check whether rim colour and hub model go together.What do I have to look out for?
- Hub Spacing
- Boost (110mm front, 148mm rear) is today's standard; older bikes run 100/142mm, downhill 110/157mm Super Boost.
- Disc Mount
- 6-bolt (IS) or Center Lock. The rotor has to match the hub, otherwise you need an adapter.
- Freehub Body
- Shimano HG, Shimano Micro Spline or SRAM XD/XDR. The freehub decides which cassette fits: smallest sprocket 11, 10 or 9 teeth.
- Inner Rim Width
- The inner width of the rim decides how wide a tire sensibly sits. 30mm is today's all-rounder, narrower for XC, wider for enduro and plus.
