Jan Bisanz
Jan Bisanz is from Bad Rehburg, lives in Hanover and has been riding BMX since 2012. It all started with an old BMX his uncle Fabian gave him. Today Jan is one of the most creative street riders in Germany, and he does it without any pegs. He has been riding for kunstform BMX Shop since 2024 and has been on the pro team since 2025. If you are looking for him in Hanover, you will usually find him at the Gleis D skatepark, at the 2er or at a spot in town that everybody else would simply ride past.
No pegs, no party?
Jan has no pegs on his bike, and so far he has not missed them. When freedombmx asked him in a bike check which pegs he runs, all he wrote back was: "What is that?" Instead of grinding he finds other ways over a spot, with wallrides, turndowns, crankflips out of manuals or 360 taps, often put together into combos you hardly ever get to see. And he does not brake either, he slows down by "drifting and sliding".
He rides a BSD Freedom with a 20.5" top tube, Kriss Kyle's signature frame, which Jan has been riding for years. He cuts his bars by about a centimetre on each side and runs a freecoaster in the back. BSD is his favourite brand, and since 2023 he has been riding for them through the German distributor SIBMX.

Welcome to kunstform
His welcome video came out in February 2025 (Welcome to kunstform), filmed and edited by his cousin Valentin Seuss. It holds footage from five years, filmed in Hanover, Berlin and Tarifa. Jan told freedombmx about the hardest clip:
"By far the most exhausting clip was the swimming pool drop. Everything was soaking wet and we could not really dry it with towels. On top of that we had to go there late at night, because of the construction site, which is why the pool was empty."
The 360 tap to 360 pedal at the Ihmezentrum, on the other hand, worked exactly the way he had hoped. A few clips were filmed at the 2er, the DIY park in Hanover where Jan and Valle also skateboard.

Gleis D: Jan's second living room
When Jan is not on the road, he is at Gleis D. The skatepark at Hüttenstraße 22b, between Nordstadt and Hainholz, has been around since 2019. It is run by a non-profit club for youth culture and sports, and skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter riders and inline skaters share a ramp hall, a street hall and a large outdoor area. Almost everything in there was built by club members as volunteers: when the hall next door was added in 2021, the new street hall was concreted by hand over the winter, including a platform made of paving stones (more at freedombmx). In 2024 the street area in hall 1 was rebuilt once more.
Jan is not only a local there, he is part of the crew: he works behind the counter, gives workshops and tested the first ramps back in early 2019. Besides regular sessions, Gleis D offers workshops, kids sessions, bikes only nights, rental bikes and pads, and jams like the Halloween BMX Jam. Opening hours and prices are on gleis-d.de, current photos on Instagram @gleisdskatehalle.

Building spots
If the right spot is missing, Jan builds one. Building spots sits right next to skateboarding and tennis on the list of things he likes to do besides BMX. When filmer Anton Arens stayed with him in Hanover for SHIVER, the two built a DIY spot on the side. And sometimes the angle grinder has to come out: the wallride to fakie in the welcome video only happened with help from Louis and a grinder.
SHIVER
A crazy idea on a holiday in Spain in spring 2023 turned into one of the best German BMX videos of the last years. Jan and Anton Arens went on five trips together for it, to Badalona, Cologne, Hanover and Potsdam, and the music was made by Anton's sister Rosa Arens. It premiered in January 2024 in Cologne and was released on DIG BMX. At the freedombmx Awards 2024 it came second in the video of the year category, and Jan finished fourth in the street ranking.
À La Carte
Before that, Jan already had the ender part in À La Carte, the first full length video of the Hanover crew CREMiCH, which was nominated at the freedombmx Awards 2021. It was filmed by Valentin Seuss as well, and Jan was not only in front of the camera but also behind it. Back then freedombmx asked (article in German): "Why does Jan Bisanz still not have a sponsor?" Luckily that question has been answered.
Behind the camera
Jan films a lot himself, too. At jams like Butcher Jam, Highway to Hill or the Happy New Year Jam in Bremen he is the second camera for The Medialist, and at Simple Session 2025 in Tallinn he walked through the arena with a microphone for freedombmx.
Jams, contests and trips
Contests are not his main thing, but he has won a few anyway: he took first place in the BMX street jam at Butcher Jam 2024 and won the hall 3 ranking at the Biking League at Thüringia Funpark in 2026. At Highway to Hill 2025 at the Mellowpark in Berlin, Jan even rode the trails. freedombmx put it like this: "Now he rides trails too! Jan Bisanz just does not fit in any box."
In summer 2024 Jan went to Copenhagen with the kunstform team, the Stuttgart crew picked him up in Hanover on the way. The result is our team video Kopenschaden:
