Who or what is Nordvlies?

Nordvlies is a German manufacturer of wiping, cleaning and care cloths made from nonwovens and hygiene paper. The company was founded in 1928 by Karl and Erna Wasilewski as a laundry in Hamburg-Altona; nine years later a sales outlet for cleaning cloths was added. In the 1960s the second generation switched the business entirely to hygiene and nonwoven cloths and founded NORDVLIES GmbH. Since October 2014 it has been run by Björn and Torsten Wasilewski, the fourth generation of the family.

What does the WIPEX brand stand for?

WIPEX ® is the registered trademark Nordvlies sells its finished products under – since the move to Bargteheide near Hamburg in 1988, every product made in house has carried that name. Behind it sits a whole range of cloth types for different jobs, from highly absorbent cleaning paper and microfibre cloths to the solvent-resistant power cloths of the WIPEX ® WORK line.

What does Nordvlies mainly make?

The focus is on products converted in house:

• Wiping, cleaning and care cloths made from nonwovens
• Cleaning paper rolls and towel rolls
• Hygiene paper and dispenser systems
• Napkins and tablecloths for the catering trade
• Protective clothing and skin protection

Administration, central warehouse and production sit together at the Bargteheide site on roughly 12,000 sqm; four converting lines turn nonwovens and tissue papers into folded and rolled products.

Who are Nordvlies products for?

Nordvlies states that it supplies wholesalers and large-scale users worldwide. The line that matters for a bike workshop is WIPEX ® WORK: perforated wiping cloth rolls made from cellulose nonwoven, solvent-resistant and highly absorbent, meant for cleaning work around the vehicle and anywhere a mobile wiping-cloth system is wanted – exactly the thing that sits on the bench next to chain lube, degreaser and brake cleaner.
