Male Axle (Solid) The classic threaded rod (usually 14mm rear, 10mm front) secured with nuts. Female Axle (Hollow) A hollow axle with internal threads. Secured with bolts from the outside. Lighter and often stronger as no threads damage the dropout.

What do I need to consider for a replacement axle?

The axle is the backbone of your hub. Since every manufacturer uses their own bearing spacing and cone designs, axles are **not universal**. You must choose an axle specifically made for your hub (Manufacturer & Model).
