The Surly "Stainless Steel" MTB Chainring - 130 BCD is a stainless steel chainring for cranks and spiders with a 5-bolt 130 mm BCD. Surly makes its chainrings from steel because chain and cogs are steel too: according to Surly aluminium is 35% softer than stainless steel and wears out sooner. The 304 stainless steel resists rust and corrosion and is known for its toughness. Once one side is worn, simply flip the ring around and get another lifespan out of it. It is made for single speed, fixed gear and tandem timing chains. It has no ramps or pins, so shifting with a front derailleur is a bit slower.
