Daniel Schuhbauer
Daniel Schuhbauer, Dani to everyone, has been riding BMX since 2006. If you are looking for him, you will usually find him at the trails in Aichwald, with a shovel, a tarp, a watering can or sometimes a chainsaw in his hands. Dani is the chairman of the Bikesportclub Aichwald e.V. and one of the reasons the Aichwaldtrails are still around after 20 years. And once the jumps are running, he rides them too, preferably until the sun is gone.
Dani sent us some fresh photos, shot at jams in Aichwald and in England.
The Aichwaldtrails
Just outside Stuttgart, next to the sports fields in Aichwald, people have been digging, building and riding for about 20 years. It all started next to a four cross track, where Andy Schwarzkopf was allowed to build a first trail line. Today there are three trail lines, a table line, a race straight and a pump track, and riders from all over the world come to the yearly Schanzafeschd jam.
For a spot to last that long, it takes a club, permits and people who take responsibility. Dani has been part of it for about ten years and at some point took over from Andy. Since then he has been taking care of everything that comes on top of riding as the club's chairman, and that is quite a lot. We at Kunstform BMX Shop have been supporting the Aichwaldtrails for many years and are happy to have a spot like this right on our doorstep. More about the anniversary in our article 20 years of Aichwaldtrails.

80 % work, 20 % riding
For the trails' 20th birthday, freedombmx talked to Dani and Andy (full interview in German at freedombmx). Asked whether he rides or builds more, Dani said:
"Building, of course. Mostly moving tarps back and forth, covering and uncovering. I would say the work that goes into it is 80 %, and the time you actually sit on the bike is 20 %. But that 20 % is so good that it is worth it."
And why you would do that to yourself:
"You build a jump yourself and send it, and the moment you fly over it and you are in the air, it is simply the best feeling you can have on a bike."
Andy summed it up in the same interview: running into Dani was a real stroke of luck, otherwise the spot would not exist anymore.

Dani is not only on and behind the jumps, by the way, but also behind the camera. The video from summer 2024 at the Aichwaldtrails is his:
And this is what it looks like when everybody shows up for the Schanzafeschd:
In summer 2025 we spent an evening at the trails with filmer Ole Peter, Dani and Matthias Bäder, after the two had been digging all afternoon (One evening at Aichwald Trails):
On the road
Aichwald is his living room, but Dani travels a lot to ride other trails: Catty and Epsom in England, Plauen and the Mellowpark are among his favourite spots. On German Unity Day part of the Aichwald crew drove into the deepest woods of Saxony, where Tim filmed Dani on a line called Brigitte. And next to it, what Dani usually looks like when nobody is riding:
Ride the Aichwaldtrails yourself
The Aichwaldtrails are next to the sports fields of ASV Aichwald, Krummhardter Str. 74, 73773 Aichwald, parking is at the school. If you want to ride there regularly, you become a member of the Bikesportclub Aichwald e.V., the active membership includes insurance. Membership form, statutes and all info are on aichwaldtrails.de, current photos and dates like the next Schanzafeschd on Instagram @aichwaldtrails.
